Glossary 144,000: The number of people who will live forever in heaven. 1914: The year of Christ's invisible "second coming" when he took over "kingdom power" ARMAGEDDON; GREAT TRIBULATION: The great battle in which Christ will abyss Satan for a thousand years and destroy all nonbelievers. AWAKE: A news magazine published by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. BETHEL: Headquarters of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society In New York. BIBLE STUDY: Teaching Jehovah's Witnesses beliefs to a nonbeliever usually through the use of the "Truth" book. Also refers to a person studying. DISFELLOWSHIPPED: To be excommunicated from the 3ehovah's Witnesses. FIELD SERVICE; SERVICE: Going door to door with the "Kingdom Message". GOVERNING BODY: A select group of the "remnant" at Bethel who decide issues. GREAT CROWD: Those who will live forever on the earth. HOUSEHOLDER: Anyone met at the door while going door to door. KINGDOM MESSAGE: Any or all of Jehovah's Witnesses beliefs. NEW ORDER; NEW SYSTEM OF THINGS; NEW WORLD: The period of time after the "great tribulation" in which Christ's rule over the earth will be evident. OLD ORDER; OLD SYSTEM OF THINGS; OLD WORLD: The current period of time (before the "great tribulation") where Satan is ruling over the earth. PIONEER: A Witness who devotes 100 hours a month to witnessing. PRESENTATION: Rehearsed brief message given to a householder to stimulate interest in the "kingdom message". PUBLIC REPROOF: The congregation is informed of an erring Witness and certain privileges are taken away from him/her. REMNANT: Those of the 144,000 heavenly class who are still alive. SOCIETY: Variously used for: The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, the governing body, or all of Jehovah's Witnesses. TIME CARD: A form for reporting the time spent each month in field service, number of placements made, and number of Bible studies conducted. TRUTH, THE: The teaching of Jehovah’s Witnesses, or their organization. To be "in the truth" is to be a member of the Jehovah’s Witness organization. To "fall out of the truth" is to leave the organization. TRUTH BOOK, THE: A publication of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. The full title is The Truth That Leads to Eternal Life. Often used in Bible Studies. WATCHTOWER: The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, the publishing company of Jehovah's Witnesses. Also the name of their primary magazine. WITNESS: A Jehovah's Witness. To preach to nonbelievers.
